Adverse Drug Events Overview for LTC
Overview
This LTC-specific program prepares staff to reduce the risk of adverse drug events in nursing home settings. Through scenario-based learning and real-life decision points, staff build the knowledge and habits needed to identify medication-related risks, recognize early warning signs, and respond appropriately. From medication administration to monitoring and communication, learners develop confidence applying safe medication practices during routine care and high-risk moments.
  1. Medication risk awareness: Identify common causes of adverse drug events, including high-risk medications, polypharmacy, and transitions of care
  2. Early symptom recognition: Recognize subtle resident changes that may indicate medication side effects, interactions, or dosing issues
  3. Safe response & communication: Practice timely documentation, escalation, and interdisciplinary communication to prevent harm
