Fall prevention
Overview
This program is designed develop critical thinking skills that will allow the user to reduce the risk of falls, particularly among older adults. In our interactive program, real life scenarios are navigated to identify how to create safe home and work environments. These scenarios include common fall risks and how to avoid preventable falls. Learners will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively assess, manage, and prevent falls in at-risk populations. The program provides real world scenarios where the user must create individual risk assessments and personalized preventative measures.
Course Objectives
  1. Help users of the program identify intrinsic (can’t be changed) and extrinsic (can be changed) causes of falls.
  2. Know what is a reportable fall and actions to perform if a resident does fall.
  3. Identify what makes a resident either a high or low risk of falling.
  4. Through scenario based learning, identify safety improvements to prevent falls, e.g. installing grab bars, improving lighting, and removing tripping hazards.
  5. Learn to assessing medications that may increase fall risk.
  6. Identify chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular issues that may contribute to falls.
  7. Learn to work as a team to prevent falls.
