Bloodborne Pathogen Safety in Long-Term Care
Protect yourself, your team, and your residents by knowing how to prevent, respond to, and report exposures.
Overview
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens is a serious risk in long-term care settings. This program helps staff prevent exposures, respond safely when incidents occur, and meet OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. Learners will walk through real-world examples, practice safety behaviors, and understand how to report and follow up appropriately. The course emphasizes prevention through daily routines and quick response in urgent situations.
  1. Prevent exposure: Use PPE correctly and handle materials safely.
  2. Know what to do: Clear steps for spills, sharps, and incidents.
  3. Stay OSHA-compliant: Annual refresher meets Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
Prevent and Respond
  1. Recognize common bloodborne pathogens and how they are transmitted.
  2. Practice safe handling of sharps, laundry, and bodily fluids.
  3. Use and dispose of PPE the right way.
  4. Follow the correct steps after an exposure, including who to notify and what to document.
