Enhanced Barrier Precautions in Long-Term Care
Stop the spread of resistant germs with practical strategies that fit into everyday care.
Overview
This course helps long-term care staff understand and apply Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP) to reduce the spread of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs). Learners explore who needs EBP, when to use gloves and gowns, and how to integrate precautions into care without disrupting resident routines or dignity. The course is built on CDC and CMS guidance.
  1. Protect high-risk residents: Focus on residents most likely to carry or spread resistant organisms.
  2. Care that fits real life: Learn how to apply EBP in a way that works during normal routines.
  3. CMS and CDC aligned: Built using the most recent Enhanced Barrier Precautions guidance.
Everyday Prevention, Elevated
  1. Understand what Enhanced Barrier Precautions are and how they differ from Standard Precautions.
  2. Learn which residents require EBP and why.
  3. Apply glove and gown use correctly for specific tasks.
  4. Prevent stigma while supporting dignity and infection control.
