John Gallagher

Director of Simulation Strategy and Innovation

John Gallagher is a Professor and the Director of Simulation Strategy and Innovation at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, where he leads transformative work in experiential learning, clinical readiness, and technology enhanced education. A seasoned Clinical Nurse Specialist in Trauma and Critical Care, he brings more than 40 years of experience spanning clinical practice, healthcare leadership, and academic innovation.

John’s career reflects a rare breadth of frontline expertise. He has practiced in the specialties of trauma, critical care, and emergency medical services—not only as a nurse, but also as a respiratory therapist and paramedic. This multidisciplinary foundation has shaped his reputation as a clinician educator who bridges physiology, systems thinking, and real world clinical judgment. He has held national leadership roles that influence practice and policy, including service on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and membership on the NIH COVID 19 Treatment Guidelines Panel. John currently contributes to the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s Nursing Section and serves as Chair of the Airway and Mechanical Ventilation Task Force, where he helps guide evidence based practice in some of the most complex domains of critical care. Throughout his career, John has been recognized for advancing trauma and critical care nursing, championing interdisciplinary collaboration, and shaping the next generation of clinicians through innovative simulation based education.
